Crash on imdb XBMC scraper initalization while adding new movies

description

Search for new movies finds new files.
Each file is in its own named folder.
Scrape by folder name is turned off.
Media Companion 3.4.3.3b

As soon as media companion starts to scrape the new files it crashes.
No media companion crash log comes up. Instead I get the standard windows crash report.

Sorry, once again, I'm not seeing an issue.
What are your Prefs set to down the left side?
Mine are:
Use XBMC Scraper - checked
Use IMDB XBMC Scraper - selected
Enable fanart from themoviedb.org - checked
Enable posters from themoviedb.org - checked
Enable posters from MoviePosterDB - checked

Everything else is unchecked...does that match yours?

Ok, my prefs matched yours as they are listed here but I was still getting a crash every time I tried to scrape new shows or movies.

I started with a fresh "install" of MC 3.4.3.3 and got the same crash report.

Fresh install #2 I changed my settings in the General TV/Movie preferences tabs to use the normal scrapers rather than the "XBMC Scrapers" This seems to have solved the issue! Everything is back to normal and scraping fine. I think that the movies "XBMC imdb scrapper" and the tv "XBMC tvdb scrapper" are being sent invalid search terms, or are maybe returning invalid results.
Not really sure what the issue is, but I know that the default settings work and the check boxes for XBMC scrappers under the tv/movie prefs tab is causing crashes for me.

So... to fix it, I just don't use those check boxes! haha

Well, using the MC scrapers would certainly be my recommendation! But others use the XBMC scrapers for specific reasons, so I'm no closer to finding out what's wrong. It must be something specific to your system as mine doesn't have the same problem under the same settings.
BTW, you're finding some interesting bugs! What system are you running, and why did you choose to use the XBMC scrapers, just out of interest?

matsojr22 wrote Mar 21, 2012 at 4:01 AM

My current setup:
The tower running MC:
asus sabertooth 990fx mobo, AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black, 4gb ram, win 7 ultimate, along with some other junk in there.
MC is being used to sort out metadata for my home media server.
I have an always on server running freeNAS 0.7.2 piping out ~10TB of media over a gigabit wired home network via samba shares.

Needless to say, trying to manage 10+TB of data is going to bring out bugs that the average user may not run into haha! Anyway the majority of my media is being fed to my living room tv. I'm using a jailbroken atv2 with XBMC.

Media companion was a godsend, previously if I had to do a database rebuild in XBMC I would have to spend a solid day or two waiting for everything to scrape; let alone fixing any incorrect labels or missing fanart!

The worst part is that my MC cache is so large that it takes about 10min just to get up and running after I his a crash. So just checking the different options to solve this issue probably took me about 30min haha.

You guys are always really quick to respond though. I'm happy to help more than anything. I know that bugs are hard to pin down on other users systems and am usually just looking for any insight that you might have when i post a crash report. Likewise I always hope that the bugs I report are helping in some tiny way to make the software better for everyone.

Oh, and I chose to use the XBMC scrapers because I am using an XBMC media center :P
I was not sure if the nfo structure would be optimized by using the XBMC scraper.

Just to respond to your comment, the XBMC scraper is only the method of getting the info; MC creates the same NFO regardless of scraper used.

If this continues to occur after the next release, would you mind reinstalling the full version of .net framework 4 (not the client version). It is likely there was a corruption during the install.

thanks

I'm having this very same issue.

MC Scraper works fine, but as soon as I try to use XBMC Scraper MC just crashes.

It happens on v3.5.0.0 and in the latest beta v3.5.0.3

Hi,
I matched your settings and I have the same problem, with both the stable release and the current beta release.

I only have 404 movies so it is not a big issue in terms of movie numbers I am scanning across a network drive to an ubuntu drive with two different shares for two different drives. System has full permission to the boxes/drives.

Using the MC scraper works every time, trying to use the XBMC scraper fails every time.

Let me know if I can help further.
